Tech Tip – How To Use Dictation In Windows
Did you know there is a built in dictation function in Windows; you no longer need to buy a third party application in order to produce your written content by just using your voice.
Here is how to use it:
- Open the application you want to use for your written content, such as Microsoft Word.
- Either open the document you want to modify or start a new document. If you are modifying an existing document, don't forget to put the cursor at the place where you want to continue your written content.
- The very first time you use this function, you will need to enabled it, Press the Windows key and H which will provide you with a link to Settings so you can enable it, slide the toggle switch to on in order to enabled it.
- When you have enabled it, close the settings page and return to your application where you want to capture your dictation and again press the Windows key and H which enables the dictation function.
- Once you have done this the microphone symbol will appear at the bottom of the screen and you can start to dictate.
- Everything you dictate will be converted into text and you can freely type away just by speaking.
- When you've finished you can either click the cross or the top right hand corner above the microphone or you can click on the circle with the microphone in it to end the dictation session.
