Tech Tip – How To Set Data Limits Used By WhatsApp
Did you know that WhatsApp can use a surprisingly large amount of storage on your mobile AND can also use up a lot of your mobile data allowance by automatically downloading videos, large pictures / photos, and voice messages?
Here's how to limit the types of media that are automatically download and the amount of mobile data WhatsApp calls use:
- On your mobile, open WhatsApp
- If WhatsApp has 3 dots at the top right of the screen, tap the 3 dots and tap "Settings", if you don't have the 3 dots, tap "Settings" at the bottom right of the screen
- In Settings, tap on the menu option "Storage and data"
- Slide the toggle switch marked "Use Less Data for Calls"
- On the same screen, in the section labelled "MEDIA AUTO- DOWNLOAD", change the option for each section, "Photos", "Audio", "Video", and "Documents", so that it is set to use "Wi-Fi" instead of "Wi-Fi and Cellular"
This will make sure that less of your mobile data will be used up by WhatsApp and that it will only download files when it has a wireless connection to use.
