Tech Tip : How to remove any personal or hidden data from a Word document before sharing
Did you know that when you create a document using the Microsoft Word desktop application, it can leave a lot of hidden data in your document that you may not wish to share with others.
If you are using Microsoft Word for Windows, here is how to check to sure you don't overshare data:
- Open the Microsoft Word Desktop application
- Open the document you want to share
- Click on File
- Click on Info
- Click on Check for Issues and select Inspect document from the drop down
- In the box that appears, click on the Inspect button, this will inspect the document and show any metadata embedded in the document that you may wish to remove.
- Each section of the inspection will show you an area that has data with the option to remove data if found
- One you have removed data, the document will display a banner saying personal information removal has been enabled
You can do this on all documents before sharing
