Tech Tip – How To Backup Your ChatGPT Chats By Using Export

Did you know that you can use the export function in ChatGPT to export and save your Chats, which allows you to backup your chat history and hold onto your data, otherwise it will eventually be lost. 

Here's how to do it:

• Login to your ChatGPT account
• When logged in, click on the "three dots" at the bottom left of your browser, next to your login name
• Click on "Settings"
• Click on "Data Controls"
• Click on the "Export" button
• Click on "Confirm Export"
• You will get notification that an email has been sent to your registered email address (the email you associated to your ChatGPT account when you set it up) .  The message says "Successfully exported data. You should receive an email shortly with your data" and is a green banner at the top of the page
• In the email is a "Download data export" link, click on this to download your ChatGPT chat history.
• A ZIP file will download with all of your chat history in it
• Save the zip file as your chat backup
