Tech Tip – How To Backup WhatsApp Conversations

With so many relying on WhatsApp for important business or personal matters, it makes sense to backup chats.
Here is how to on Android or iPhone:
Android - Google Drive Backup...
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap on "More Options", which is the three dots
- Tap on "Settings" > tap on "Chats" > tap on "Chat Backup" > tap on "Backup to Google Drive"
- Select your backup schedule - Note: choosing "Never" disables the backup feature
- Select your Google account that you want to backup the WhatsApp Chat data to
- Select which network you want to use (mobile data or WiFi) by selecting "Back up over" and choosing the option that suits
- Turn on end to end encryption by tapping on "Settings" > tap on "Chats" > tap on "Chat Backup" > tap on "End to end encrypted backup" and tap on "Turn On"
- Create a password, passphrase or use a 64 digit encryption key
- Tap on "Create" which will enable encryption in your backup
iPhone - iCloud backup...
Pre-requisites - You are signed in with a valid Apple ID and you have iCloud Drive enabled / turned on
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap on "Settings" > tap on "Chats" > tap on "Chat Backup" > tap on "Back Up Now" - this will do a one off backup
- If you want to make your backup automatic, tap on "Settings" > tap on "Chats" > tap on "Chat Backup" > tap on "Auto Backup" and select the frequency, daily, weekly, monthly or off
