Tech Tip – How To Assign Roles To ChatGPT : Using The "Act As ..." Prompt
Did you know that you can get ChatGPT to write replies to questions in a specific style, as if they were responding as a well known person such as Joe Biden, or in a specific style of role such as replying to a question as a business person, or as a cockney! This is easy to do using the "Act as..." command in ChatGPT
Here is how to do it:
- Login to ChatGPT (if you don't already have an account, follow the steps here to set one up)
- At the question prompt type, for example:
- act as a Glaswegian offering directions to a tourist in London
- ChatGPT will respond with something along the lines of "Aye, pal, ye look a wee bit lost there, ken? Need a hand findin' yer way around this big city? No worries, I got ye covered!...."
- You can use any sort of descriptor such as "business person" or "French citizen" and frame as a question, a response or scenario
- Add more detail to the question to fine tune the response for your intended target audience
Have some fun with it, things we have tried are "Act as Donald Trump", "Act as a Glaswegian", "Act as a Brummie" and each of the results has been amusing and exactly the sort of response we were expecting. You can use it for more serious matters as well, other things we have tried are "Act as a sales person closing a deal" and "Act as a mechanic explaining what a cylinder head gasket is for" .
Although one thing we have noticed is that ChatGPT seems to like the word "mate" when replying as a style of person
