Tech Tip – How To Automatically Delete Old Emails In Gmail
If your Gmail account has filled up with old emails that look like they may take some time to delete, here’s a quick tip on how to set up a filter to delete these old emails automatically.
- Open Gmail
- Go to "Settings" (in the top right), and choose "See all settings"
- Click on "Filters and Blocked Addresses" and then "Create a new filter"
- In the pop-up box, type the following older_than:X in the “has the words” field. Note X is the time frame for deleting old messages, d days, w for weeks, m for months, and y for years. For example to change the time frame to be three years, replace the X to 3y
- Select "Create filter" then click "OK"
- Put a tick in the check box next to the "Delete it" option and to "Also apply filter to"
- Select "Create filter"
- Now emails older than the date you specified at X are now be deleted automatically
